Slow Down

Slow down…Slow down…Slow down

I have been repeating this to myself ever since I realised that I was unconsciously rushing to make things happen. There were reminders from friends but the Universe had to do its trick to make me conscious of what I was doing or rather telling me to do nothing!

What’s intrigued me with this episode is that even though I am physically keeping up with a routine, I have slightly neglected the pace of using the upsurge in my energy levels. I have come to the realization that this upsurge of energy can be used consciously to focus on what my mind needs to relax or the activities that can calm my mind and do things at ease.

Ironic isn’t it, even an increase in energy levels can be used to damage oneself!

I am glad I have realised this, though bitterly but at the right time.

You might be wondering how can one Slow Down consciously.

Well here are a few ways of doing that:

1. Set boundaries pertaining to work time, screen time, socializing – I know this is so easy to say but trust me when you make your wellbeing a priority anything is possible.

2. Being in the present moment – Do what is needed to be done at that point in time and don’t get swayed away by distractions. I you do then you have to work on the previous point.

3. Engage in mindfulness practices like breathing practices, meditation, just sitting and doing nothing

4. Engage in grounding practices like walking barefoot on the grass, gardening or spending time in nature

5. REST. REST. REST – If you think your body needs rest, grant it. If your mind is overwhelmed, grant rest.

6. Take only one task at a time – Nobody is going to give you an award for multi-tasking.

7. Listen to your body and mind and be in sync with them and do what is needed

It does take an effort initially to get into a rhythm but once you understand your mind and body it is a smooth sail.

Lastly, give yourself permission to rest, unwind, relax every now and then not just when everything seems topsy-turvy.
